Drawing from a decade of professional experience, Victor will give you an inside look at how he approaches and solves an illustration from start to finish.
In this workshop, Victor will take you through his journey as an artist and walk you through his professional work, sharing the lessons and experiences that shaped his approach to illustration and character design.
For Gold Ticket students, Victor will paint over your artwork and provide personalised feedback, identifying what is and isn’t working while breaking down your composition, structure, design and fundamentals.
With a Silver Ticket, you’ll experience the full workshop. Ask questions throughout, watch Victor make artistic decisions, and learn from each paintover as he breaks down how he approaches an illustration and the techniques he uses to improve it.
By the end of this workshop, you’ll have a deeper understanding of splash art, Victor’s approach to painting and design, and the techniques he uses to create stronger illustrations. You’ll leave with practical knowledge you can apply to your own artwork, from making better artistic decisions to improving your composition, design and fundamentals.

This workshop is about more than seeing a professional artist paint. It’s an opportunity to understand why Victor makes the decisions he does.
By watching him paint over and provide feedback on a range of student artwork, you’ll see first-hand how fundamentals, structure and clear goals can be used to strengthen an illustration, while still preserving the personality and individuality of the artist behind it.
As Victor explains:
“Paradoxically, by using fundamentals, structural strategies, and clear goal setting, we can open ourselves up to solving our illustrations and designs in a way that is intuitive and playful. I believe that my value as an instructor is not in lecturing (plenty of YouTube videos for that), but in collaborating with you to bring out the best version of your work in a way that feels uniquely yours.”

Requirements
To attend this workshop, you should be a beginner to intermediate level artist. Basic proficiency with digital art software (such as Photoshop, Procreate, or Clip Studio Paint) is also essential.
Meet your mentor
My name is Victor Maury, and I’ve been an illustrator and concept artist for about a decade, known primarily for my League of Legends splash art & character designs on Arcane. Throughout that time I have had the privilege of being on several world class art teams where I made it my personal mission to learn as much as possible from my talented peers while developing my own voice and artistic instincts.
Currently, I’ve taken the dive into freelance so I can take on whatever projects interest me, carving plenty of time to illustrate cards for my favorite game, Magic the Gathering.
Mentoring and teaching are still relatively new to me, but I have found unexpected joy in collaborating with passionate students and building artistic community, which is more important now than ever.
I’ve tried a lot of different forms of art in my life: 2D animation, t-shirt design, illustration (traditional and digital), character & costume design, concept art, and what it’s taught me is that, while each of these could take a lifetime to master individually, they all share an underlying vocabulary of creation that always comes back to fundamentals, storytelling, and communication.
My goal now is twofold: remain an eternal student of these fundamentals, and approach the creative process with ever more light, intuition, and most importantly, playfulness. I would love to share that journey with you.
Other than that, I will be moving to the French countryside soon to focus on my greatest challenge yet: being a new dad!
