Requirements
This digital art mentorship is designed to take your skills to the next level with professional studio-style experience. To ensure that you get the most out of your mentorship, we accept intermediate to advanced-level artists only. To apply for a mentorship, you should have a solid grasp of art fundamentals and confidence with your software of choice.
Lessons and details
Week 3
In your first session, you’ll meet with your mentor and establish your card illustration goals. The task for this week is gathering references, organizing mood and reference boards, and sketching out the subject of your card art. Your mentor will also review your portfolio with you.
Week 3
In week two, you’ll enter the sketching phase. Here you’ll explore card art composition and framing, and discuss how you can approach your sketch. The task for this week is to produce three rough sketches that will form the basis of your final card illustration.
Week 3
After reviewing and refining your rough sketches, week three will focus on your rough color options. Your mentor will discuss the use of color and light in greater detail. The task for the week will be to provide three rough color options for your card illustration.
Week 3
In week four, you’ll choose a final color option with your mentor and move on to rendering. You’ll explore the art of balancing the scale of details, and how to approach rendering efficiently within a deadline. The task for the week is to take your chosen color scheme and push it to the final stages.
Week 3
Week five will focus on polishing your final card illustration and file prep. The task for this week is to apply any feedback and add the final polish to your masterpiece. You will also be cleaning up the file to the industry standard.
Week 3
Week six is dedicated to addressing any final feedback from your mentor and reflecting on the progress you’ve made during the mentorship. This will be your final opportunity to ask any questions about your work and feedback, so come prepared!



Meet your mentor
Alexandre Leoni (@leoniarte) is one of Mooncolony’s Lead Artists and a famed rendering wizard 🧙♂️ During his career, Leoni has become a notable figure within Brazil’s creative community, well-known for his colorful stylized work. He has over 15 years of experience in game illustration—particularly card games—and has worked on iconic franchises such as Hearthstone, Magic: The Gathering, KeyForge, and Lightseekers. Leoni is also a Lead Artist on Mooncolony’s 2.5D animated cinematics. Alongside his work at Mooncolony, Leoni is passionate about helping budding game artists achieve success.
